Auto accidents can result in severe, debilitating, and permanent injuries, often leading to significant financial losses for the affected individuals and their families. Motorcyclists face a significantly higher risk of being involved in traffic accidents, with a 28 times higher chance of experiencing a wrongful death compared to passengers in cars. Despite motorcycles only making up 3 percent of registered vehicles and traveling only 0.6 percent of all miles in the US, motorcyclists accounted for 14 percent of overall traffic fatalities, 17 percent of occupant fatalities, and 4 percent of injured occupants in 2015. These statistics, from the NHTSA’s National Center for Statistics and Analysis, shed light on the dangers facing motorcyclists.
